A key priority of the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations is to support the sustainable development of forests and the competitiveness of industries that use them.

Timber Harvesting Program 

Forest Tenures Branch The Forest Tenures Branch supports the Ministry’s provincial timber harvesting program by providing administrative and operational staff services as well as expert advice to executive, field staff and external clients.

Small Scale Salvage Program

Forest Tenures Branch 

Small Scale Salvage has been used as a tool to salvage and utilize small volumes of timber that would otherwise not have been harvested and to address forest health objectives.

Mountain Resorts Branch

Provide expert professional and technical advice to both resort clients and to the MRB team regarding forest management including tenures, forest health, fire protection, forest legislation, timber cruising, timber harvesting, etc.

The First Nations Forestry Council Programs

The First Nations Forestry Council

Work with governments and others to ensure that First Nations needs, values, and principles are factored into forestry-related policy and program development, including monitoring, evaluating, influencing and providing policy advice and research

First Nations Forest Sector Technical Support Program

Provides technical support to First Nation communities to increase value derived from the forest resource by increasing productivity in harvesting, transportation and manufacturing; improving process, product attributes and quality; supporting product and market diversification; and fostering entrepreneurial investment. 

BC Bioenergy Network

The BC Bioenergy Network is led by industry and supports near-term bioenergy technologies and research to build a world-class bioenergy capability in British Columbia

Pacific Forestry Centre (PFC)

Works with forest sector stakeholders regionally, nationally and internationally to undertake the science behind challenging forest issues.

Centre for Advanced Wood Processing (CAWP)

University of British Columbia

The Centre for Advanced Wood Processing (CAWP) is Canada’s national centre for education, training and technical assistance for the wood products manufacturing industry. CAWP offers a wide range of training courses, professional e-learning programs, in-plant training, product development, and manufacturing improvement services. We also conduct and coordinate applied research and development, and support the award-winning B.Sc. in Wood Products Processing and its cooperative education program.

BC Wood 

BC Wood is a not-for-profit trade association that has represented British Columbia’s value-added wood products industry for over 25 years.  It is an industry-led association with a membership base of 120 specialty wood manufacturers and a board of directors that represents every value-added sector in every region of the province.

The Vancouver Island Association of Wood Processors (VIAWP) is a not-for-profit organization that represents the interests of independent, value-added wood products' manufacturers and specialty sawmills on Vancouver island.

Apprenticeship program - 15 forestry trades programs available

Industry Training Authority (ITA) BC

ITA is responsible for leading and coordinating the skilled trades training and credentialing system for the province. ITA provides strategic leadership, policy support and customer services to help apprentices, employers and industry. ITA sets program standards, maintains credential records and issues the highly regarded Interprovincial Red Seal and B.C. Certificate of Qualifications (C of Q) credentials.

In 2012, the BC Community Forest Association and the Ministry of Forests, Lands & Natural Resource Operations merged the Fibre Connections BC website into the WoodSourceBC.com website. This decision was made to ensure a long-term commitment to developing and sustaining an international wood marketplace for local and foreign buyers and sellers of BC wood products.
