The Ministry of Forest, Lands and Natural Resource operations (FLNRO) administers the Forest and Range Practices Act, which governs activities of forest licencees operating on Crownland.  Within the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako are the Bulkley, Morice, Lakes, and Prince George Timber Supply Areas (TSA) on which various licensees hold tenure.

The majority of harvestable forests in the area have been affected by the Mountain Pine Beetle, which has created new opportunities to diversify the industry away from its dependence on dimensional lumber production. The abundance of lower-quality fibre has resulted in many new business ventures in the region. Pellet plant operations are supplying both the national and international markets. Bioenergy, biomass, and gasification initiatives are in various stages in the region.  Large-scale and small-scale facilities operate throughout the region.  FLNRO announced June 26, 2012 that regulatory changes will "make it easier for smaller operators to acquire wood fibre and logging debris unwanted by primary harvestors."  This change will support the growth of the region`s biomass and value-added industries.
