Student Success Initiative

Prince George

Programs under this initiative are introductory courses for high school students, students in their first year of study at a university, including those who have transferred from regional colleges. It is also appropriate for mature students who have been away from academic study for a period of time.

Trades and Technical Programs-Career Prep

Location: Smithers, Houston, Telkwa

Grade 10-12 students will be working in a cohort exploring a variety of trades over the semester. Students will be introduced to trades such as: welding, electrical, carpentry and heavy equipment operator. The program is designed to give students skill in a variety of trades and a better understanding of what each trade requires to help them make more informed career choices in the trades. Students will be working out of the Smithers Secondary and Northwest Community College.

The “Gateway” is a walk-in client service with a twofold service; to place clients in industry based training and to work with industry to create job opportunities. They provide sponsorship to the Business Administration Diploma Program at the CNC Prince George Campus.

Training sessions include group and one-on-one settings. Group learning allows for opportunities that would not present themselves in a one-on-one situations.
